CHARTER OF THE ASSOCIATION OF POLITICAL SCIENCE & INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS STUDENTS
A NAZARBAYEV UNIVERSITY STUDENT ORGANIZATION
ARTICLE I
GENERAL INFORMATION AND PURPOSES
1.1 Name: The name of this organization shall be the Association of Political Science & International Relations students (herein referred to as the PSIR Association)
1.2 Purpose & Mission: The purpose & mission of this organization shall include:

Communicate with faculty to set up events that bring the undergraduate body into closer contact with faculty;

Provide social events for students to get to know one another, unite and interact with people who share common interests;

Connect students with professionals from political science and international relations related fields;

Encourage students to explore research careers in political science and international relations related fields;

Create opportunities and experiences for students in order to generate leading professionals;

Help students discover their interests and reach their career aspirations;
-
Facilitate discussion, debate, and dialogue over political issues in a warm, friendly, and open atmosphere where individuals feel free to speak their personal views;

Provide academic support for students in political science and international relations;
ARTICLE II
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
2.1 Board Member Positions
I. President
a. Preside over all weekly board meetings and bi-weekly general member meetings;
b. Coordinate with all board positions to create an agenda for all meetings that outlays discussion topics;
c. Create semester adjusted timetable for events with tentative dates, and update calendar of club’s events;
d. Manage all board members;
e. Finalize budget each semester.
II. Vice President for Education
a. Coordinate the projects of PSIR ASSOCIATION to provide academic support for students and develop their research skills;
b. Communicate with faculty to set up events that bring the undergraduate body into closer contact with faculty;
c. Organize creative events that allow students to learn political science in a fun way.
III. Vice President for External Affairs
a. Communicate with professors and business leaders to present a lecture to PSIR ASSOCIATION;
b. Update Facebook, Twitter and other PSIR ASSOCIATION social accounts;
c. Organize social events that promote PSIR ASSOCIATION among NU community.
IV. Vice President for Internal Affairs
a. Organize creative and fun events that allow PSIR ASSOCIATION members to meet and socialize;
b. Get members more involved in PSIR ASSOCIATION;
c. Create a platform for students to develop and explore their potential.
V. Vice President for Finance
a. Maintain relations with PSIR ASSOCIATION partners;
b. Keep track of budget;
c. Search for ways of fund-raising.
2.3 Board Member Application Process
I. All officers within this organization must be registered students of the Nazarbayev University, and all decisions regarding this organization must be made by students.
II. All applicants must submit the formal board member application and appropriate materials by the submission date set by the board.
III. Applicants may submit application by email.
IV. The board will organize a round of interviews for selected applicants.
2.4 Terms and Tenure. The terms, tenure, and removal of board members shall be as follows:
I. President
a. The president will serve for the term of one year.
II. Elections
a. Elections for the positions of President and Vice-President will be held at the end of every academic year. The current President will count the votes and announce the winners.
III. Criteria for holding office.
a. All individuals holding office must be registered NU students and be elected by a majority vote of the registered student members of the organization voting at the elections meeting.
b. All individuals holding office must have been a board member for a minimum of one year before.
2.4 Committee/Board Member Addition
I. A new board member position or committee can be created if there is a demand for a specific type of additional services.
a. This position or committee can be developed upon a majority vote by the current board.
ARTICLE III
MEMBERSHIP
3.1 Member Application Process
I. Any registered NU students, faculty, and staff interested may officially join the organization, although anyone may attend meetings and events hosted by the organization.
II. Applications will be accepted throughout the academic year.
III. A kick off meeting for new members will be held at the beginning of the fall semester.
ARTICLE IV
REGULAR EVENTS
4.1 Board Meetings
I. Regular board member meetings will be held biweekly throughout the academic year.
4.2 General Member Meetings
I. General Member meetings will be held at the beginning of each month during the academic year.
II. Events may include but are not limited to: Speaker/Lecturer Series, Social Events, Resume Workshops, Career Services Events, Professor Brunches, and Graduate School Events.
ARTICLE VI
AMENDMENTS
6.1 All amendments to the PSIR ASSOCIATION Constitution are to be approved by a majority vote of the current members.
ARTICLE VII
RATIFICATION
7.1 This Constitution of the PSIR ASSOCIATION must be signed by the entire current board at the beginning of each academic year. Should a board member join in the middle of the year, he or she must sign the constitution at that time.
